Our fun video

We had so much fun making this with the kids πŸ™‚

We wanted to share a fun glimpse into our day … so here it is!

Be Creative!

It’s time for show and tell once again !

This is a real fun upcycle I did using and old night stand.

It now is a wonderful play stove.

Be inspired! Get creating!

Spin Art

Using a salad spinner makes very interesting designs. Β This activity also encourages co-ordination, fine and large muscle development,

012Β  I cut the circles just the right size to fit the bottom of the spinner,

then we dropped tiny bits of watered down paint onto the paper, shut the lid and spun.

Self portraits

Making self portraits and learning our shapes at the same time .
circles,rectangles,semi circles,hearts…
the children made a picture of themselves using shapes and their favorite colours..
The end result was adorable!

Like I said ADORABLE πŸ™‚

Days of the week cycle

I have been doing some research, some reading here and there, pages, blogs, articles, books. From everything that I have researched I have come to the conclusion that I really love many aspects of different teaching philosophies. I’ve also discovered that the daycare has kind of morphed into a waldorf / montessouri style of play / learning.
Which I find very cool!

I developed this new weekly schedule and the kids love it!

Today was wash day ( Friday )
The kids washed toys, sprayed/washed windows, shelves, mirrors…. and yes they loved it!

Monday is baking day which is a bit challenging as we have one little guy that is allergic to milk.
Tuesday is painting day

Wednesday is story day – this day is so much fun! we tell stories using props instead of reading books.

Thursday is craft day

Friday is wash day – we wash toys and whatever else, then at the end of the day we throw all bedding pillows stuffies … in the wash πŸ™‚

Art for the food bank

For a few years now I have had an idea rolling around in my head … So I thought I would give it a try.
The kids here at the Giggle Patch are creating paintings to sell as a fundraiser to raise money for our local food bank.

The upcycle / artisan store that I work for part time are displaying them for us.
So far we have made over $50.00 !

For Toddlers who love to climb

As always the dynamics of the daycare are changing… children come and go. At the moment I have two, two year olds who LOVE to climb! So, I decided I must get creative and I made a little corner where they can climb, it’s not high up off the ground, it’s nice and soft… AND I put a shelf where we can keep all our hard paged books for the little ones to look at.

003
I TOOK ONE OF THESE SHELVES…

002
AND MADE THIS!
THE SHELF WAS LAID FACE DOWN ON THE FLOOR, COVERED WITH A FOAM TOPPER AND THEN COVERED IN MATERIAL TO MAKE IT NICE AND SOFT. THEN I TUCKED IT BEHIND A COUCH TO MAKE IT A LITTLE NOOK.

005

I ALSO FOUND THESE GREAT CUT OUTS MADE FROM WOOD AT MICHAELS CRAFT STORE THEY WERE VERY CHEAP AROUND 3.00 A PIECE. I PAINTED THEM AND HUNG THE CHILDREN’S ART WORK IN THEM WHICH CAN BE CHANGED WHEN EVER WE HAVE NEW ART TO DISPLAY.

004

I THINK IT LOOKS GREAT! EVEN WITH ALL THE TOYS PEEKING OUT FROM UNDER THE COUCH πŸ™‚
