Build a snowman and your name

A very cute winter craft is making name snowmen. I made the circles before hand and cut out the rest of the shapes as well. When it was time for the kids to make their snowman they found the correct letters and built their snowman to spell their own name. They also had some fun painting with a scrub brush to make snowflakes on the picture as well.

Although when you have a one year old do this …. It kind of looks like the poor snowman melted hahaha

Bring the outside inside

When it is too cold to go outside, we bring the outside in.

Here the kids are having fun using liquid tempra paint to paint the snow.

This year has been CRAZY cold!! But we are still having fun with a bit of creativity!

Our new friend

A few weeks back the kids all made bird feeders and we put them on the front porch. We watched daily and to our surprise a nice black squirrel has come to visit! She ate all the food off the pine cones and so now we daily put out peanuts for our friend.

Feeding the birds

Today we made bird feeders.
Melted lard, bird seed, bread crumbs and crackers.
We spread the mixture onto pine cones.

We decorated a table on the front porch just outside our big window.

Now we wait ……

Cotton ball snowstorm…well maybe not

Here is a great example of going with the flow.  I had posted on my calendar that I was going to have a snow storm in the playroom… Yes a snow storm! I bought lots of cotton balls and one of the moms donated a few bags as well. I was going to let the kids blow the cotton balls around the playroom floor.  It was to be a big snowstorm with all the dinosaurs and fisher price people buried and the rescue heroes were going to have to be called in… Well, just like some of the forecasts we hear on the news we prepare for a huge storm and all we get is a few flurries hahaha.

I pulled out the cotton balls and what happened? the kids decided that it would be more fun to stuff them into the play tins.. yep that’s it.

Don’t get me wrong they had lots of fun, I would definitely do it again… It just didn’t turn out the way I expected it to.

But they did have fun and that’s the main thing =-)

Bringing the snow inside

Today we wanted to bring snow into our playroom.  So first things first we needed to get bundled up and get out there and shovel some snow!

With food colouring and water in big spray bottles we coloured our bins of snow.

Of course it didn’t take long until the dinosaurs found the snow!

The dinosaurs were having so much fun that they invited a whole bunch of people and animals =-)

School Age Crafts

    Melted crayon art.

We hot glued crayons onto canvas and pointed a big old hair dryer at them and watched them melt.

We had to quickly turn the canvas this way and that so the crayons would run in the direction that we wanted them to.

Another fun thing we did was make snow flakes but this time we used scrapbook paper to make our flakes.

We then stuck them onto contact paper and then put them on our windows.

They turned out really pretty!
